The Force Headquarters, Abuja has deployed a mobile police team to control traffic on the Lagos ports access roads.

The Force Headquarters announced Commander, Mopol 22, Muhammed Rabiu, as the head of the new team. This is coming on the heels of the disbandment of the Presidential Task Force on Apapa gridlock, which was enmeshed in allegations of corruption.

According to a letter of redeployment of the police dated January 29, 2021 from the office of Assistant Inspector General in charge of MOPOL at the Force Headquarters, the appointment of the new team was in line with the reconstitution of the taskforce on decongestion of Apapa roads.

The letter stated that Sector 1 of the axis, comprising Lagos Port Complex, Wharf Road to Creek Road, Ijora Olopa, Ijora Sifax will be headed by CSP Ogbuefi Henry King while Sector 2, comprising Tin-Can Island Port, Liverpool Bridge to Coconut, Sunrise to Trinity will be led by CSP Odunlami Muhammed.

It was earlier reported that the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had also constituted a special team to manage traffic in and around the port city.

It is not clear yet if the Lagos State special team and the Mobile Police team will work together or separately.
